About Courtnay Kopec, LCPC

Counselor/Therapist in-person and virtual in Columbia, Maryland

My journey to become a therapist began almost 10 years ago when I had my 3rd child and couldn't bear to go back to my 9-5, full-time, desk job. I knew I needed a change and wanted something different. After much soul searching, I decided to go back to school and complete my Master's Degree in Counseling. I studied part-time, while also working part-time and taking care of all the responsibilities that go along with being a wife and mother of 4. The hard work and sacrifice paid off, and I am now a successful therapist with over 6 years of professional experience in addition to decades of life experience as a helper.

In our work together I hope to help you unlock the resources you already have inside of you to create the life you desire. I can help with symptom relief as well as developing insight and understanding of who you are, where you come from and who you hope to be in the future.

I look forward to working with you.

My Education & Experience

I completed my graduate studies at Loyola University Maryland, earning a Master's Degree in Pastoral Counseling - focused on Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I believe that caring for the whole person - body, mind and spirit is integral to creating a life of balance, passion and purpose.

I am licensed to provide professional counseling services by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors (BOPC). License #LC9857. I am also board certified by the National Board for Certified Counselors.

Associations: Catholic Psychotherapy Association; Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors of Maryland

I have worked with individuals, families and groups in a variety of settings including private practice, outpatient mental health clinics, communities and schools.

I have experience treating anxiety, depression, stress, addiction, and trauma. I have a particular interest in helping women move through the stuck places and better understand themselves so that they can live the life they deserve to live. I tailor my approach to the individual person and what I believe will be most helpful for them. I often use techniques from solution focused therapy, CBT, DBT, and person centered therapy.
